General Job Description:

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health), Galveston, Texas, seeks applications from outstanding PAs and NPs who wish to work with academic cardiologists to provide the best possible cardiology care to our patients, in mainly outpatient patient settings. There is a limited call obligation and the position is ideal for early-stage PAs/NPs who want to professionally grow in the field of cardiovascular medicine while maintaining his/her work-life balance.

The successful candidate will enjoy highly collaborative and stimulating academic interaction with the faculty cardiologists, cardiology fellows, clinic and clinical research staff. The successful candidate will be mentored and trained to be a successful PA/NP in the field of cardiovascular medicine.

Candidates should possess or eligible to an appropriate professional license to practice medicine in the State of Texas. Candidates should be an excellent communicator with superior people skills and genuinely interested in working together as a team to benefit our heart patients. Clinical experience in cardiology is preferred but not required.

The practice, which has constantly grown at the rate of 10 20 % a year, is carefully managed and benefits from robust patient-care infrastructure of the UTMB Health.

Specific Job Related Duties:

(1) Supports Division Director in his clinic operation

(2) Supports the Division s clinical programs by operating independent clinic sessions, both free-world and TDCJ.

(3) Accepts patient referrals from outside and UTMB physicians, assigns them to appropriate cardiologists, and keep the referring physicians updated.

(4) Follows up on labs and diagnostic studies, and returns patient phone calls.

(5) Addresses critical lab values reported on clinic patients.

(6) Discusses pre-procedural certifications with the insurance companies and others. (?)

(7) Executes physician s orders in accordance with legal, ethical and institutional standards.
